Isaiah 6

Vs. 1 Historically date by kings…740BC. Some say, vision/dream, but Isa says, eyes. Want fill in, what every Jew see in mind’s eye. Moses, after 40 days, came down w/ blueprints (>13 chptrs). Commanded exactly…Hebrews 9 [11, 23-24] But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation…For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself Altar— daily sacrifices pay sin, always lit never go out (Lam 3:22-23). Washbasin open 24hrs. Holy place showbread (right), lampstand (left), incense altar. Each reflect JC (bread of life, light of world, sweet savor to God), across from incense, veil to HP that no one enter…Ark and mercy seat (covered law), >important thing in Temple. God meet! (Ex 25:22). Only two things ever touch mercy seat. God and sacrificial blood! One time removed mercy seat and 50K dead (1 Sam 6:19, Roseburg, Winston and CV), another time Uzzah (2 Sam 6)…Obviously very very important item because reflects what Isa seeing.

Vs. 2 Seems Rv 4:8. Ezekiel 1:13 (10:15) describes cherubim: their appearance was like burning coals of fire, like the appearance of torches going back and forth among the living creatures. The fire was bright, and out of the fire went lightning. Mighty creatures yet won’t even look, nor allow humble parts uncovered. Stars beautiful powerful, humbling but when sun rises, puny lights vanish.

Vs. 3 Not conversing w/ Lord but SHOUTING to one another. Every grass, every breath, every…David prayed Ps 72:18-20 Don’t have to LET! IS! 3X Holy! Once not good enough? 2x? Remember Hebrews repetition=intensity. By way, only word in Bible aware that repeats 3x. In re: God, never says love…light…truth…Tell us anything? Must grasp, God HOLY! Seraphim did.  

Vs. 4 Don’t forget had read Ex 33:20. Smoke refer physical glory 1 Kg 8:10-12 How feel right now?

Vs. 5 When saw angels, in abject humility, shouting, smoke, realized, not supposed be here! No safe place in heaven where glory not RAGING! Hb 12:29 Rv 21:23 says, light world. Ever stand next to sun? Get w/in 10 million miles, poof! Rm 3:25 Sudden awareness of Who God is and who we are is normal. Lk 5:8, Job 42:5-6, Manoah and wife Jdg 13:22…Remember Mk 4:41, from fearing to fearing exceedingly! Far more frightening have God in boat than storm outside. But this is prophet of God, miracle worker, complete obedience, died for God…yet still same position before God. JC said, mouth overflow heart. Angels doing right, I wrong! Contrast this response to irreverence Uzziah in the copy (2 Ch 26:16-21).

Vs. 6 Remember what right in front Mercy Seat? Real incense Rv 8:3 So hot, “angel tongs!” Isaiah knew not serve like seraphim, so God cleansed and lit his holy fire in him. God, the consuming fire, only fitly served by those on fire, whether angels or men.

Vs. 7 First thing God does is remove that which separates and condemns. Guilt never keep you from God because if truly sorrowful, won’t leave in that condition. (2 Cor 7:10) Cry out 1 Jn 1:9…This coal offered new life. Absolute Grace! Had not ceased nor begun anything, and now perfect and blameless. Heb 10:14 Convicted and now cleansed and ready serve.

Vs. 8 Now could hear! I, Us?...Strange asks volunteers? How strange Ez 33:20 His plan always entail reaching world thru person. But seeking willing/eager person! Doesn’t want giving by grudge/necessity (2 Cor 9:7) doesn’t want serving by compulsion (1 Pt 5:2). Isa emphatically answers, no hesitation. He wants be answer to question. Remember Lk 10:2-3 Was one the unclean lips but now met God! What person God looking for in a nation in crisis?  Someone who has seen His holiness! Who has accurate view of God, understands He is sovereign, powerful, almighty, nothing beyond power, Holy, that His Glory extends all earth, AND who has an accurate view of self. God isn't looking for perfect people, but purified people

Vs. 10 Go preach to people who won’t respond. Preach truth and watch hearts harden. Hard ministry. Everyone who rejects God’s truth has to harden their heart. Some a little, some a lot. Lk 12:47-48…This prophecy used repeatedly NT surrounding JC. Miracles left and right in Mt but in Chp 12 ask for sign! According Jn fulfills prophecy. In fact, Jn 12:37 then vs. 39 However, from positive standpoint if will hear, when Word received with open eyes, ears, and heart. Brings understanding to heart, makes us return, and brings healing to lives.

Vs. 11a How long reject? The answer: Until destruction...134 yrs off. Will be Isa’s lifetime work.

Vs. 13 Isa ministry not regarded success today. The death Uzziah marked beginning of ministry and end of nation. What going sustain? The answer: a vision of Who God realy is! Same as Jn at beginning Rv, Paul beginning ministry. How many times Paul go back to blinding? When suffering, when rejected. God had called each and that calling was >than life, goals, desires. Holy, Holy, Holy...

6 things want point out in Isa 6. God alive: Not single head of state be here in 70 yrs. The turnover world leadership 100% and all 6 billion populating earth gone in little over century (like Uzziah). But not God. God is Mighty: Vs. 5 God is Splendid: Vs. 1 God is to be feared: Vs. 5 God is Holy (Heavy and Perfect): Vs. 3 God is Jesus: Jn 12:41
