Pastor's Notes

Isa 28

2 main divisions, 1st 39 chapters basically deal w/ judgment upon those who turn away from Him. Last 27 dramatic change in style and focus (causing some to believe 2 Isa’s). However, John 12, JC quotes both sections and attributes to 1 Isaiah. I will trust Him…The last 27 deal w/ coming of Savior, His crucifixion and death, His redemption of sinners and His thousand year kingdom. Interesting 39 and 27. One more thought, 39 OT books speak of law and justice, 27 NT books speak of grace through God’s sacrifice. Hmmm…

Vs. 20 No real rest! Not prosperity, pleasure, drunkenness, not even religion. You'll never find satisfaction in prosperity or peace in pleasure. There's only one place of real rest…

Vs. 21 Lord prefers pour out His mercy and grace to build men up and defend them rather than destroy them…(Zech 3:1-5) That why considered “unusual”. However, remember Jsh 5:13-14.

Vs. 29 God’s plans will prevail and are perfect (Rom 8:28). His plowing, planting, threshing and grinding are purposeful as the farmer. His counsel is full of wonder and His plans are well prepared. The LORD knows the way of the righteous, The LORD knows the days of the upright, The LORD knows the thoughts of man

29:8 Zec 2:8 For thus says the LORD of hosts: "…to the nations which plunder you; for he who touches you touches the apple of His eye.”

29:12 Peter Gomes, honorary fellow at Emmanuel College, where they actual have a class called the “Gomes Lectureship”, ordained American Baptist, serves in the Memorial Church of Harvard, where is “Plummer Professor” of Christian Moral . He is considered the leading expert on early American religion, serves as a trustee of Bates College and is a visiting professor of Duke University and UNC and was awarded an honorary doctorate by Westfield State College. Widely regarded as one of America’s most distinguished preachers, even being named Clergy of the the year in 1998. He is a lifelong republican and has offered prayers at Reagan and senior Bush’s inaugurations and is a self declared ‘Christian who happens...to be gay.’ After tracing the Scriptures' history and addressing basic questions (what can be believed about the Bible?) this eloquent preacher tells us what the Good Book really says about racial equality, women's rights, and homosexuality; too often he observes, 'The battle for the Bible...is really the battle for the prevailing culture." In other words, the Bible changes to adapt to our changing culture. Once homosexuality was looked upon as sin, but today it is an alternate lifestyle and must be accepted. Mt 5:18 "For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. 1 Pt 1:24 All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls away, but the Word of the LORD endures forever. (Quoting Isa 40:8)

29:24 Complainers…Efficiency expert concluded lecture with note of caution. "You don’t want to try these techniques at home." "Why not?" asked somebody. "I watched my wife’s routine at breakfast for years," the expert explained. "She made lots of trips between the refrigerator, stove, table and cabinets, often carrying a single item at a time. One day I told her, ‘Hon, why don’t you try carrying several things at once?’" "Did it save time?" the man asked. "Actually, yes," replied the expert. "It used to take her 20 minutes to make breakfast. Now I do it in seven."
