Isaiah 11-12

Progression:  7- King about born; 9-Born; 11-12 Reigns!  This portion details Messiah’s earthly reign in Israel.  Some theologians spiritualize...If so, why apostles ask such strange question Ac 1:6 Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?    Why all of heaven shout in Rv 11:15 The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!?  Why does Paul say, Rm 8:19-22 The creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God…because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.  For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.  Earth suffering and be delivered at appearing.  Don’t believe when amillennialist tells you these things not coming.  Just tell as soon as prophets stop writing about, Apostles stop looking for, angels stop rejoicing in, then I too stop believing.    

 

Vs. 1 Isa 10:33-34 cut down.  Only one Jesse in Bible…(Rev 22:16) Royal line cut down/dormant 600 yrs when born. 

 

Vs. 2 Although, weak/humble Himself (Is 53:2) will have >power, but not of Himself.  JC controlled/empowered by HS.  At baptism, baptized in Spirit.  Incredibly important, because shows our Potential…Isa repeatedly stresses anointed: Isa 42:1, 61:1  Peter stresses it Ac 10:38 God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him..  JB stresses it Jn 3:34 For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure.  So, as movements infatuated spiritual gifting comes, must look at JC to see how Spirit manifests Self.  Simply test “movements” with this filter…Described in series three pairs with central theme “Spirit of Lord” (Rv 4:5, Ex 37:21).   Wisdom/Understanding:  Jn 7:46 No man ever spoke like this Man!  Lk 24:32 Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?… JC told us HS reveal truth to us (Jn 16:13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth) Paul prayed for Eph 1:17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him

Counsel/Might:  Counselor covered in detail (Isa 9).  How much daily counsel JC give disciples?  Crowds?  Before left Jn 14:16 I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever.  Might?  Ac 1:8 = Power.  Jn 14:12 Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.   >works? 

Knowledge/Reverence:  Simply knew…Exampled w/ Nathanael (Jn 1:48).  Repeatedly told them about betrayer.  Jn 2:25  This gift spoken about 1 Cor 12, supernatural knowledge.  Knowledge puffs up (1Cor 8:1)?  JC in willing submission.  Reverence for Father “ate Him up” (Ps 69:9, Jn 2:17) Jn 4:34 My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.  His food!

 

Vs. 3 Appearance/circumstances meant nothing!  JC touched on this Mt 15:16-20

 

Vs. 5 Mere words have power. After 7 years wicked ruling earth, Rv 19:15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.     

The result, very, very clear in Rv 20:1-7…Peter preached to multitudes that Jesus has left for  a time..whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began. (Ac 3:21)  God’s original plan will be restored and get a glimpse… 

 

Vs. 8  Kids often ask animals?  Predation, meat eating and animal violence doesn’t seem to begin til post-flood.  Gen 9:2-3 And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be on every beast of the earth, on every bird of the air, on all that move on the earth, and on all the fish of the sea. They are given into your hand.  Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. I have given you all things, even as the green herbs.  Seems part of groaning Rm 8:19-22.  Vegetarians? 

 

Vs. 9 Those who blame God for pain, hurt, evil, need read this.  By force (strike earth, slay wicked)…When Lord reigns over earth, every creature transformed.  Why not just new earth right away?  Fits 7’s of Scripture.  1K of rest before begins again.   

 

Vs. 12           These vss speak 2nd return.  Not upcoming return from Babylon/Persia, but long after when after 2K years exile (May 14, ’48).  Not complete according Eze 37 until Spirit of God comes upon His people and they recognize JC.  Zech 12:10 I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn. Isa 43:1-7…beautiful!

 

Vs. 16           Any obstacle keeping His people from Him will be taken away.  Nothing can oppose this call!  Mt 24:31 He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. Is 35:8   As read, visualize Shepherd calling sheep.  12th chapter the response those whom He has gathered.  Us?!! 

 

12:4a Bugs people.  Biblically follows joy of God.  (Pastor who began and church board forbid: “Undignified”).   Many try to put down exuberance, joy and excitement we experience when see God working.  Commanded here!  Because: 1) God has become my salvation. Well, I say, “That is me!  Therefore, I am compelled to say, “Praise the Lord!” 

 

12:6  What a joyous blessing when our heart fixes on the salvation of God and all of our worry and anxiety pass away into His promises.
